Torture En-Masse

June is anti-torture month.

This blog totally and unconditionally opposes torture.
I have promised to write at least one post against torture this month.

Now let’s consider the following:

Take 1.4 million individual and squeeze them on a stripped piece of desert of area 378 sq km. That is about 3,600 persons per sq km or 9,400 per sq mi.

Cage them in and control their every move on land, air and sea.

Create a situation where 70% of them are out of work. Stop any help from coming in. Make it so that those working get paid once every four months. Make it a situation that forces mothers to sell their golden earrings for $2.5 to buy milk for their children.

Overtly send agents and drones to assassin leaders and children (by mistake!) almost every day.

Demolish entire villages while people are still in their homes and impose collective punishment on entire towns, villages, and camps, for the acts of a few.

Cut off water, electricity, food, medicine, sympathy, etc. Distort the news.

Keep up these acts for decades.

And if any one of the Gazans dares to kick the table in anger, go into Gaza-the-stripped-desert with a force that will make the bones of their ancestors (and the ancestors of Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians et al) shake with fear in their graves.

This is just a short list of the acts of “mercy” that Gaza-the-stripped-desert and its 1.4 million inhabitants on 378 sq km have been graced with, courtesy of the Democratic Republic of Israel.

These are acts of torture.

Torture en masse.

Update:I stand corrected - despite the fact that bigotry exists - thanks to Ahmad who wrote:

I used a similar trick from the initial site to create the photo in

Soccer, 'Shabablak' NiKoTeen, & the Truth

After the combo effect of Bremertz report and the capturing of the Mossad ring responsible for multiple assassinations over the past few years:

1.5 million Lebanese still strongly accept as true [ha2i2a] that the Syrian “regime” (not the people, mind you) are responsible for the murder of PM Rafic Hariri and everything else.

1.5 million Lebanese genuinely believe [as hakika] that the Mossad, its collaborators and its Israeli government were responsible for PM Rafic Hariri murder and everything else.

And while we are at it:

1.5 million Lebanese live in misery, poverty, depression and wretchedness.

50% of Lebanese youth are drug addicts.

More than 50% of Lebanese teen consume tobacco.

2.9 million Lebanese don’t give a damn.

8 million Brazilians are of Lebanese origin.

1.7 million Lebanese + 90% of politicians + PM Saniora support Brazil in the world cup.

A few cedars are crowding [3aj2in] the universe.

1 Lebanese knows nothing about soccer.

"Stray Shells" on World Cup Eve

My father always told me that the truth of a piece of news is inversely proportional to how exaggerated it is. Or to put it in his words: “you know it is a lie by how big the shit [khiryeh] is.”

What was the Israeli line for the killing of children playing on the beach this past Friday? Their excuse ranged from: it is a part of the war against terrorism, to: we regularly bomb open spaces like these in Gaza to discourage Palestinian “terrorists” from using them as launching grounds for home made rockets, and not forgetting “the right to self defense”.

Open spaces in Gaza! Go research!

By the way, what was the official Israeli line after the Qana massacres? That was when more than a hundred Lebanese civilians including children, who took shelter at the UN compound, were killed by Israeli shells. Their excuse then also ranged from their right to self defense, their war against terrorism up to the one where Lebanese “terrorists” were blamed for using civilian shelters as launching pads for those wicked rockets. At that time the US officials, including President Clinton, waved the massacre by uttering this magical spell: “Israel has the right to defend itself.” This same “right to self defense for Israel [only]” was used today too when Huda was left an orphan after her entire family was wiped out.

Talking about the US, what was their explanation when three “inmates” at the Guantanamu prison facility were found dead today? It was: “The suicides of three detainees amount to acts of war” by the dead detainees against the US. And there is an even worse explanation: the suicide of three detainees is a "good PR move to draw attention."

The suicide of three men detained for five years with no hope for a trial and who have been on hunger strike for years now, is considered as a good public relations move.

Well I am moved! And so are my intestines.

How can you tell that these excuses are lies?

Because they are extremely large piles of shit.

Large enough to make an island that could have saved all the victims of the sinking Titanic.

NO Syrian “Mass Graves” in Anjar After All

A burial site in Anjar, originally believed to be "a mass grave" for victims of Syria's military presence, turned out to be a graveyard dating to the 17th century, according to Prosecutor General Saeed Mirza.

The remains of 28 skeletons were found there last December. The suspicion [certainty for some] that this was “a mass grave” shook Lebanon politically and socially at the time. But according to Mirza, on-site investigations and complete DNA test results indicated that the earliest date of burial of the exhumed remains was 50 years ago while others were 350 years old.

"There is no evidence of it being a mass grave, no evidence of any crime committed on this site, no evidence of torture or injuries from gun shots as it was reported earlier," said Mirza.

Syria denied the accusations then, and contended that they were a pretext to damage Damascus, which was and still is under heavy international pressure to cooperate with the U.N. inquiry into Hariri's assassination.

Syria's exoneration clears up a sore point between the two countries whose bilateral relations are at their lowest point in decades.

Ya Farhitna!! [Yuppie Yey Yeh!!]

Today we Lebanese are exhilarated beyond description.

Today we can say we have attained “al thafr al a3tham”, the mother of all victories.

NO, it is not because Minister Fatfat finally made up his mind about who spanked Sami Jumayyel’s delicate butt. We all knew from the beginning that Sheikh Sami is incapable of telling a lie.

And NO it is not because PM Sanioura hacked down those taxes that are eating up our monthly paychecks.

Electricity and water will NOT run continuously and smoothly, and secularism is still in a coma.

No not these. And not any other petite objective our not-down-to-earth minds harbor.

IT IS BECAUSE, after long and hectic deliberations and negotiations, our council of ministers, and our information minister managed to cut a deal to allow us to watch the WORLD CUP for free on our TV sets through our NOT-SO-LEGAL cable services.

YES, FREE HALF-LEGALIZED WORLD CUP right in your living rooms.

So stop whining everybody and prepare the popcorn and the um uh Pepsi cola.

Mark this day. Add it to the other glorious dates on our calendar.

The Infallible "6x6 Mukarar"

The inexcusable riots of Thursday were NOT because Hezbollah’s fans lack sense of humor. It is a self evident truth that all Lebanese sexes, sects and parties share a common trait of having the humor of a pea by burning shit.

Just sample “Bass Mat Watan” or “La Youmal” or “Abou Salim” or etc and you will see what I mean. This goes to prove that they are one people in one nation under one cedar.

The chaos was NOT the result of violating Article 7 of the Audiovisual Law, no matter how deep this may sound. It was NOT because of the other law that prohibits messing around with Clerics and Sheikhs was violated. Although those in favor of this excuse verify it by saying that leaders of Hezbollah were satirized before on the same show and there were no disturbances.

Was it then because the show "insulted the symbol of the resistance and its leader"? My answer is also NO. Although shirtless, screaming 16 year old Abbas insisted that this was the reason. But his actions were more insulting than the satire.

And of course Minister Mouawad’s assertion that this was an invasion of Beirut is a typical form of the Lebanese sense of humor.

As for Sami Jummayel’s claim that this was barbarian Shiite attack on the civilized and highly cultured Christian Monot street of Achrafieh and the rebuttal of Minister Fatfat that on the contrary the greater and more serious attacks were in Tarik el Jdedeh and Kola area, with their high density of Sunni population and some Druze, well, I think these will just be the excuses that will tickle and please the very troubled president Bush.

My theory is that the riots took place because the infallible law of “6x6: repeat if you bleeze” was not implemented, a law that Minister Fatfat seems to understand and implement quite well these days.

The process is simple, if you are going to satirize a sheikh or a sayyed or a priest from sect A you should simultaneously satirize a clergy or a sheikh, of equal stature and standing from sect B and C and D etc. or you must contact the other TV stations and tell them of your plans so they can reciprocate by satirizing a sheikh or clergyperson of equal stature at the same time.

The question left now is: Who is the equivalent of Nassrallah in each of the other components of our grand Lebanese bowl of fattouch?

This is the age of nothing in everything.” -Sabah

Fire in Beirut. Tell Bush that his Cedar Revolution advances. Hummus hitting the fan everywhere in Lebanon last night. After a program on LBC-TV which mocked Hasan Nasrallah, thousands of Shi`ite demonstrators took to the streets all around Lebanon. And violent clashes between Shi`ites and Sunnis, and between Shi`ites and Maronites were reported in different places in Lebanon. -As'ad
