There is hope

Who said the Americans are politically naive and are easily swayed by the media?

The results of the American midterm elections are simply good news.

Check Pierre's updates of these elections as they go.

Hi MB, Pierre,
It seems Jim Webb has won the Virginia race- and the narrow margin in his favor might widen in the coming hours...
Anyhoo, as they say in the old country, it's "Mabrooq" for the House, and "Mabrooq Salaf" for the Senate.
Let's hope George Walker and George Féliïx have enough decency left not to ask for a recount!
;))

Moussa, it looks like your campaigfn worked. Webb's got it. The Republicanbs might contest a bit but they're focusing their lawyer brigades on Montana. Webb's lead is insurmountable.

Hi Moussa,
Lets hope for a change but it will not come easily and soon.

Nanacy Pelosi, the new speaker at the house is an AIPAC croonie (Look for Loubnan Ya Loubnan for a more complete protrait):

http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0527-23.htm

On Iraq's prime minister critics of Israel during the Lebanese war she said:

'' WASHINGTON, July 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's address to the joint meeting of Congress tomorrow:

"Iraqi Prime Minister's Maliki's criticism of Israel's right to defend itself is unacceptable. At the White House this morning, Mr. Maliki did not retreat from his comments on Israel and once again failed to criticize Hamas and Hezbollah's terrorist activities. Unless Mr. Maliki disavows his critical comments of Israel and condemns terrorism, it is inappropriate to honor him with a joint meeting of Congress."

Dwefending the Syria accountability act she says:

''"The people of Israel and the cause of peace in the Middle East have been the traditional targets of the groups helped by Syria, but today’s attack on the U.S. convoy in Gaza is a reminder that the United States, and our interests around the world, are foremost on terrorist target lists. Dealing with the problem of terrorism must be our chief priority.

"One of the lessons learned thus far in the war on terrorism is that there can be no success without disrupting the support networks on which terrorists rely. Rhetoric has thus far not been effective in encouraging the Syrian government to cease its assistance to terrorists, and to remove its forces from Lebanon.''

And she worked with AIPAC to defend one of her colleauges, Jane Harman, under investigation from the FBI, for having passedsecret and sensitive intekligence information to israel.

I think it will take a lot more to change things in the US.

- Sophie,

I (want to) believe you're excessively pessimistic: let's all savor the moment!!
Plus Olmert & Co. openly sided with Bush's Neocon-friendly candidates...
Not to mention the fact that some rightwing Virginia Republicans even accused MB and your humble servant of being "pro-Webb Ayyrab terrorists"!!!!
:))

- Dear MB,

Once again, "Alf Mabrooq" my dear freethinking friend.

As the man said, it's "time we got our country back" from the hands of the princes of Saudi Arabia and the kings of Yitzrael...

Let's hope Rummy and the other Neocon rats will soon join their friend Abramoff in some dirty DC jail!
